DCEF Hosting Annual Academies -
Successful Programs Benefiting Many Students -
Summer 2008
The Davidson County Education Foundation and their many volunteers are anticipating a very busy and productive summer with academies to be held during June, July, and August. Many students throughout Davidson County will benefit greatly from dedicated staff and personnel specialized in teaching valuable leadership skills.
The 16th Annual Bernard H. Thomas Leadership Academy is a week long series of activities emphasizing team building, decision making, goal setting, and conflict resolution. Begun in 1992, the academy held at Davidson County Community College is named after the foundation's founder and first president.
In 2008, Old Dominion Freight Line decided to partner with DCEF in sponsoring this annual leadership Academy. The Board of Directors are extremely appreciative to Old Dominion for their commitment to students in Davidson County.
STARS, or Students Teaching and Reaching for Success is also a weeklong program providing select middle school students the opportunity to build skills in decision making, self-confidence, leadership, community responsibility and cooperation. Around 40 students attend the event held at Davidson County Extended Day.
Special thanks to students, staff, volunteers, board members, and Old Dominion Freight Line for making both academies a huge success.
