Old Dominion Freight Line Partners with DCEF-
Sponsors the Bernard H. Thomas Leadership Academy
Summer 2009
Again this year, Old Dominion Freight Line of Thomasville, NC has partnered with the Davidson County Education Foundation
sponsored the 17th Annual Bernard H. Thomas Leadership Academy. The Board of Directors are extremely appreciative to
Old Dominion for their support, commitment and involvement to the students at the Leadership Academy.
The 17th annual Bernard H. Thomas Leadership Academy (June 22-26, 2009) was a week long series of activities emphasizing
team building, decision making, goal setting, and conflict resolution. Begun in 1992, the academy is named after the
Foundation's founder and first president.
The Leadership Academy's sponsor, Old Dominion Freight Line, was founded in 1934. It is a transportation leader in
delivering new solutions to customers throughout the United States and beyond. The company's dedication to community
involvement is unparalleled. Their commitment to the students of Davidson County is evident in their partnership with DCEF.
Again, our special thanks to the students, staff, volunteers, board members, and Old Dominion Freight Line for making the
2009 Leadership Academy such a success.

DCEF ANNOUNCES A SUCCESSFUL 2009 STARS ACADEMY! Summer 2009
The Davidson County Education Foundation is pleased to announced the 2009 STARS a
HUGE success. The academy was held on July 27-31, 2009 at our new location on the
campus of Davidson County Community College.
STARS, (Students Teaching and Reaching for Success), is a weeklong program providing
select middle school students the opportunity to build skills in decision making,
self-confidence, leadership, community responsibility and cooperation.
Forty-six students from the 6 middle schools in Davidson County gathered and will
greatly benefit from dedicated coordinator and staff specialized in teaching
valuable leadership skills.
Special thanks to the students, coordinator, staff, volunteers, and board members
for making STARS a memorable event for everyone.
